Kaiser Permanente is celebrating the largest expansion of medical services in the Fresno service area in more than 20 years with the opening of the new Orchard Plaza Medical Offices.

On Sept. 26, Fresno leaders, physicians, and staff recently celebrated the new offices with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the 4-story building, one of the largest in the Kaiser Permanente system. It’s designed with a modern version of early California style architecture to easily blend with nearby buildings.

Nestled inside the 146,000-square-foot building are various medical services, including primary and specialty care, pediatrics, oncology, laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy.

About 400 care providers – including more than 100 physicians – will offer high-quality, specialized health care to more than 160,000 members and patients. Orchard Plaza features 138 high-tech exam rooms, a health education center, and multiple primary and specialty care departments to support the growing and diverse health care needs of the community.

“Orchard Plaza has been in the works for many years, and it’s really a culmination of a lot of people’s efforts and advocacy for growth in the Fresno service area,” said Tyler Hedden, senior vice president and area manager for Kaiser Permanente Fresno. “Everybody is tremendously excited to be able to offer this to the community, and everybody has so much pride in what we’re doing here to improve our member and patient experience.”

Supporting the health of a community

A lot has changed in the Fresno area since the last Kaiser Permanente facility opened more than 20 years ago. A growing population and diverse health care needs has driven the need for more care and convenience to serve members and patients.

“More people are moving to the Central Valley and Fresno area, and our membership is growing, so we need the right space to meet member and patient needs,” said Shahzad Jahromi, MD, physician-in-chief for Kaiser Permanente Fresno. “This is exciting for us. The community definitely deserves this, and they’re going to love it.”

The spacious building is located conveniently near the Kaiser Permanente Fresno Medical Center with many departments under one roof to maximize convenience and overall care experience.

Creating an environmentally friendly space

Orchard Plaza was also designed with the environment in mind. Environmentally friendly features include drought-tolerant landscaping, solar panels, EV charging stations, a walking path, and bicycle facilities, all of which embody Kaiser Permanente’s ongoing commitment to supporting environmental health as well as the overall health and wellness of every person.

As with other new builds, the atmosphere was designed to be inviting. Sights, sounds, textures, and earth and water tones within the space are intended to exude calmness and support a positive patient-care experience.

The Fresno Orchard Plaza Medical Offices joins other Kaiser Permanente facilities in the Central Valley. They include the main hospital and medical offices in Fresno, Clovis, Selma and Oakhurst.
