Kaiser Permanente Central Valley leaders, physicians, and staff recently celebrated the opening of the new Modesto Medical Office Building as part of an ongoing effort to meet the growing health care needs of the area’s more than 450,000 members and patients. The building welcomed its first patients on February 2.
The new facility is part of the latest expansion in the area following the opening of the Modesto Sports Medicine Center late last year. As the population grows in Modesto and the surrounding areas of California’s rich agricultural Central Valley, so does the demand for both primary and specialty care services.

“Kaiser Permanente has been a part of the Central Valley for 40 years, and we have seen a tremendous growth in population in that time,” said Alexander Rakul, chief administrative officer for Kaiser Permanente in the Central Valley. “This facility truly showcases the best of Kaiser Permanente’s integrated care and allows us to meet the growing needs of our patients in one place right here in the Central Valley.”
More care and convenience
Conveniently located next to the Kaiser Permanente Modesto Medical Center, the new 107,400-square-foot building brings together a wide range of services under one roof in an open, inviting space to serve a growing number of members and patients.
Nearly 300 staff — including more than 75 physicians — will provide adult and family medicine; pediatrics; hematology and oncology; and outpatient pharmacy services.
The 3-story building holds more than 100 exam rooms, a 28-bay infusion center, and includes a newborn care center and high-risk infancy clinic, as well as a dedicated rehabilitative services space for physical and occupational therapy needs.
“This building represents a deep commitment to the Modesto area and our Central Valley communities,” said Sanjay Marwaha, MD, physician in chief for Kaiser Permanente in the Central Valley. “We’re creating a more seamless, patient-centered experience and convenience that truly supports exceptional care and healing.”
The building is also Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified. That certification is a rating system that addresses energy and water use, materials selection, managing waste and indoor environmental quality. The new facility boasts environmentally friendly features, such as solar panels, drought-tolerant landscaping, and use of low-emitting materials to improve indoor air quality.
“We’re excited to make this space available for the community and extend services to more people in the Central Valley,” said Andrea Cotter, interim senior vice president and area manager for Kaiser Permanente Central Valley. “This is a major milestone not only for Kaiser Permanente, but most importantly for all those who rely on us to deliver the best health care.”
