Sacramento, Calif., March 19, 2025 — Kaiser Permanente broke ground on a new 18-acre medical center today that will expand access to care and medical services for thousands of Kaiser Permanente members and patients and strengthen the economic health of downtown Sacramento.
When completed in 2029, the campus at 365 Railyards Blvd. will include a full-service hospital, outpatient medical offices, and a parking garage. Located in the historic Railyards, the facility will include hospital care, emergency services, maternity services, and additional specialty care.

Hospital will enhance patient care
The Kaiser Permanente Railyards campus will be a spacious healing environment where thousands of physicians and health care professionals will deliver high-quality care using leading-edge technology.
Anchoring the campus will be an 8-story, 662,050-square-foot hospital with 310 beds in private rooms and 14 operating rooms; a 70-treatment bay Emergency Room; intensive care unit; neonatal intensive care; and labor and delivery and postpartum care. Attached to the hospital will be a 5-story, 173,000-square-foot medical office with 66 exam rooms. Laboratory, pharmacy, imaging, and diagnostic services will be on-site.
The facility will be home to primary and specialty care, including Kaiser Permanente’s Advanced Neuroscience Center, which offers the latest diagnosis and treatment options for neurological diseases and complex conditions of the brain, spine, and peripheral nervous system. The campus will also include a 7-story, 1,500-stall parking structure.

Innovative, environmentally forward design
The Railyards Medical Center will be one of very few all-electric hospitals in the state and will include environmentally friendly features such as solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations, drought-tolerant landscaping, and use of low-emitting materials to improve indoor air quality.

Bringing high-quality care downtown

Kaiser Permanente’s exceptional cancer care has been recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, which has designated all three of Kaiser Permanente Greater Sacramento-area medical centers as Comprehensive Community Cancer Programs.
