On Monday, Jan. 18, Kaiser Permanente employees and physicians joined Hands On Network to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day with service projects taking place at nonprofits all over Northern California.
They also participated in a social media challenge supported by others: The work team with the most social media impressions between 12:01 a.m. Jan. 18 and midnight Jan. 20 earned a $5,000 donation from Kaiser Permanente for their nonprofit volunteer site, followed by $2,500 for second place, and $1,000 for third.
The winners are:
· First Place: #KPCares8, Steffan Manor Elementary School in Vallejo will receive $5,000.
· Second Place: #KPCares9, David Weir K-8 Preparatory Academy in Fairfield will receive $2,500.
· Third: #KPCares4, Poverello House, Fresno will receive $1,000.
During the challenge, tweets at MLK Day projects across Northern California received a total of 2.3 million impressions. In all, there were more than 4,300 tweets. Celebrities helped boost the campaign’s reach, including tweets from CC Sabathia, New York Yankees pitcher born and raised in Vallejo; Stevie Johnson, wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers who grew up in Fairfield; and Jason Verrett, cornerback for the Chargers. Together, these local sports idols have a combined 1.4 million followers!
Local elected officials and community leaders took part in several events, and the media showed up in spades — several media outlets even got involved in the social media challenge!
Congratulations, all!
