NCAL Fires Prompt Evacuation of Santa Rosa Medical Center

Evacuation of approximately 130 patients from the Santa Rosa medical center was successfully completed by 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, due to fires burning in the area.

The majority of our patients were transferred to Kaiser Permanente in San Rafael. Patients were also sent to our Kaiser Permanente San Francisco and Oakland medical centers, and other local community hospitals.

Our top priority is the safety of our patients, members, staff, and our community. Patients requiring medical support were transported to other facilities by ambulance.  Non-critically ill patients were transported via private buses.  We want to extend our thanks and appreciation to our dedicated staff who worked tirelessly to ensure all patients were evacuated quickly and to our patients and their families for their cooperation and support.

The Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa hospital and emergency department are now open.

Santa Rosa medical offices at 401 Bicentennial Way are open beginning Monday, Oct. 16, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for urgent walk-in and primary care appointments, with the reintroduction of other services throughout the week.  The pharmacy is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Access to the medical offices is available at the Bicentennial and Ventura entrance.  All other access points are closed.

Kaiser Permanente is making an initial $250,000 donation to the American Red Cross to help with the community’s immediate needs. We will continue to evaluate the situation and provide more information as it becomes available.

Reminder: Safeguard Your Health

It’s important to take precautions to stay healthy if you or your family are in an area being impacted by the current fires — especially those with respiratory conditions like asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Kaiser Permanente recommends that you:

  • Stay indoors and keep your windows closed (unless instructed otherwise).
  • Use “controller” steroid inhalers (like QVAR) as prescribed.
  • Use “quick relief” inhalers to help with shortness of breath.
  • If you have oxygen, use it if you have difficulty breathing.
  • Turn on your air conditioner to see if it helps, especially if it’s central air. If you have a window A/C unit, make sure the filter is clean.
  • Use fans in each room to help move the air in your house.

I would like to help our community and wondering if Kaiser is working on any volunteer efforts in the community itself. if so, do you have any links or a person that I could contact to volunteer my time.

The pictures of course have gone viral and are now on every news channel and social media link, and all that I can say is that I have never been more proud to work for this organization. I have heard from family and friends that are themselves RN’s and they cannot stop talking about how amazing our staff was.
