Kaiser Permanente San Leandro welcomes the first 2025 baby

Newborn Raelynn James Greenwell, pictured, made her grand debut at exactly 12 a.m. on January 1, 2025 as Kaiser Permanente's first baby in Northern California.

At exactly 12 a.m. on January 1, the Greenwell family of Union City rang in the New Year with a beautiful bundle of joy. The Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center staff welcomed baby Raelynn James, who weighed in at exactly 8 pounds and measured 18 1/2 inches.

Mom, Sophia Greenwell, said she received excellent care at the hospital.

“Everyone was so nice,” she said. “The nurses were super uplifting. I even had a nurse whom I called ‘Mom.’ She was awesome.”

Aurelia Hall was the first baby born in Solano County.
Kacey Lynn Coker was born on New Year’s Day at Kaiser Permanente in Roseville.

At Kaiser Permanente Modesto, Isiah Johnson was born on January 1.

Raelynn James joins four sisters who are 17, 8, 5, and 4.

“She has chubby cheeks, blue eyes, and blonde hair,” Sophia Greenwell shared. “We’re beyond blessed. She’s perfect and looks like our youngest daughter. In fact, she reminds us of the little baby from Whoville.”

Mom and dad, James Greenwell IV, said they are excited for what the future holds in 2025.

Vacaville baby comes early

The first baby born in Solano County was delivered by the staff at Kaiser Permanente’s Vacaville Family Birth Center. Baby Aurelia Hall was born at 1:46 a.m. on January 1 — earlier than her mom expected.

Although Jessica Hall of Esparto, Yolo County, wasn’t expecting Aurelia to arrive until January 6, she was excited that her newborn claimed the county’s first-baby title.

Hall praised the Kaiser Permanente staff that took care of her, according to the Vacaville Reporter. Staff members helped bring Aurelia into the world and Hall said she had a “very good” delivery and minimal pain. In particular, she thanked her delivery nurse who helped her laugh and get through the delivery.

Aurelia weighed in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces and measured 20 1/2 inches. She has her mom’s cheeks, Hall said.

Roseville baby looks like dad

Kacey Lynn Coker was born shortly after midnight — at 12:19 a.m. — on New Year’s Day at the Kaiser Permanente Roseville Women and Children’s Center. Parents Zoe and Zack Coker, of Rancho Cordova, said Kacey looks like her dad and has an older brother and sister.

Zoe Coker said she is thankful for the Kaiser Permanente team who helped Kacey make her grand entrance saying they were encouraging throughout the entire delivery.

And at Kaiser Permanente Modesto, baby boy Isiah Johnson was born at 2:58 a.m. on January 1 to parents Genesis and Isiah Johnson of Turlock. The bouncing baby boy weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 22 inches long.
