A Heart Full of Gratitude

Kaiser Permanente member Sarah Kalbus recently walked the Heart Walk in thanksgiving for her successful heart transplant.

Sarah Kalbus is still healing from the heart transplant she received 5 months ago. But that didn’t stop her and her husband from recently walking the 3-mile Silicon Valley Heart Walk in gratitude for the donor heart and the caregivers who saved her life.

This fall, more than 2,000 Kaiser Permanente employees and physicians took part in 13 American Heart Association Heart and Stroke Walks held throughout Northern California. Together, the walkers raised more than $178,000 to support research, education, and programs that help fight heart disease and stroke.

This year, 8 post-transplant patients, including Sarah, joined the Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Advanced Heart Failure team in walking the Heart Walk.
